How has the world you come from shaped your dreams and aspirations? Growing up in a house with a variety of people has made my world about connecting to the worlds of others. As our living space was extended to non-relatives, including foster children, I learned the importance understanding the backgrounds of others, and communicating expectations and needs. Schools are a larger scale of the family dynamic, both providing a place for students to grow. The skills and knowledge I gained from a diverse living environment have fueled and guided my desire to become a working piece of the education system, bridging between children, teachers, and the community to create a learning environment that makes a positive impact toward the success of every child.
Of all the ways you could succeed in your life, why have you chosen to succeed in the Miss Auburn Pageant? To survive we adapt to our physical environments, but to succeed it is important to also know the cultural environment. By teaching modern guidelines of professionalism, the program has taught social skills that weren’t emphasized in my home or school. My progress in this area has inspired a greater confidence in my potential.
What social issue, other than your platform, will have the greatest impact on your generation and why? Many students today graduate high school without adequate preparation to succeed in the adult world of today. Our public education system is in need of revision in both teaching methods and curricula to better suit our advancing society. My generation may have aged through high school, but the concern persists as future students will be our children, employees, and voters. As the recession continues, more active citizens emerge who need a strong foundation enabling them to think critically. Children also sow what the whole country reaps. Investing an improved effort into the growth of our youth is vital to our advancement as a nation, and as people.
