Hannah McFarlane

Hometown: Lake Tapps, WA

Date of Birth: May 21, 1994

Education: Green River Community College, Running Start part time; Auburn Riverside High School

Platform Issue: Relay For Life: Fighting For a Cure

Scholastic/Career Ambition: Something that I have been preparing for since I was young in school was getting good grades so that I could go off to college, and now that I am a high school senior I don’t have much time left before I am there. What I ultimately want to do after high school is go off to WSU, not only because I have a family history there but because I loved the school when I visited there. One of the biggest things that has inspired me is my mom and her career in Engineering, because she is so independent and can support herself and me with her, I too have taken engineering into consideration for my major. The other option I have set my mind to is going right away into the pharmacy program at WSU because the program there is so well and pharmacy as a career option seems very promising to me for a successful future.

Talent: Piano- Music of the Night

Scholastic Honors: Scholar athlete award 2010, 2011; WIAA outstanding scholastic award 2010, 2011.

Leadership Roles: My senior year of golf my coach appointed me and one other girl as leaders and of the team; when my dad married my step mom and I became an older sister, my role in the household changed as every move of mine was looked up to from my younger sister Grace

Accomplishments: I was a varsity flyer on cheer 2009-2011 ; I was on women’s varsity golf team for four years, playing number 2 varsity all senior year; Received the coach’s award in 2011 for golf; nominated for ‘best eyes’ for the senior class

Interesting Facts: I have two step parents; I have an adopted sister from China, although I think of her as a biological sister; My Great Grandma who has beens such an inspiration to everyone in her life just turned 100, in honor of her birthday the mayor of Auburn announced a “Beth Wagner Koehne” day; I have lived in eight different houses; I have lived in an airport hanger for a year, with my step dad’s plane and our yard as an airstrip runway; kindergarten- 3rd grade I went to a very unusual private school on capital hill, consisted of only 20 kids and it was very unique in the way our every day school went; I was a tomboy for a lot of my life, playing baseball with all the boys when I was young and growing up very athletic.

Employment: Hostess position at the SunBreak Cafe summer of 2010, it was like Black Friday every Sunday in there; Aerospace Corporation in Seattle, 2010- current.

How has the world you come from shaped your dreams and aspirations? I grew up my whole life in two different households because my parent’s divorce when I was very young. Because of this, I feel that I have a wide variety of lessons learned. This in turn has shaped me into the person I am now, and what I see myself as in the future. I hope to go off to a four year university, preferably WSU, and major in either engineering or pharmacy.

Of all the ways you could succeed in your life, why have you chosen to succeed in the Miss Auburn Pageant? I feel that the Miss Auburn Pageant will open more doors for me no matter what the outcome is in the end, it will give me skills that I know I can use in the future. I know that I will have improved interviewing skills from doing this pageant that will help me in the future for jobs. I also believe that the Miss Auburn pageant is a good opportunity for me to express myself and do something that I could possibly succeed in, as well as doing something that is fun and good opportunity. Lastly, I know that as a young girl watching the pageant I looked up to all the young women on stage, and I hope that I too can serve as a role model, being a contestant in this pageant.

What social issue, other than your platform, will have the greatest impact on your generation and why? I believe one of the biggest issues in my generation today is child obesity. Growing up in a society filled with unhealthy temptations and fast food restaurants on every corner, it is hard for kids to make the right choices. Fast food being the quicker, cheaper choice attracts many kids as well. I feel that promoting healthy choices is very important for the current generation, since they will be the ones shaping our future society and choosing the right foods means a longer, healthier life.
